TCS Buys Porsche's Consultancy MHP — and Gets an AI Partnership With It
Porsche is selling its 4,500-person IT consultancy MHP to Tata Consultancy Services, and pairing the sale with a long-term AI and digital partnership between the two companies.

Porsche said on Monday it has agreed to sell MHP, its management and IT consultancy, to Tata Consultancy Services. The two companies signed an agreement covering the entire MHP group. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal still needs regulatory and competition clearance — Porsche expects it to close in the coming months.
The interesting part is not the divestment. It is what Porsche attached to it.
A sale with a partnership bolted on
Alongside the transfer, Porsche, TCS and MHP plan to set up a long-term strategic partnership in digital solutions and artificial intelligence. The stated aim is to speed up how AI applications get developed, scaled and integrated across Porsche's business, and to push its digital transformation further down the value chain.
So Porsche is not walking away from the capability. It is converting an owned consultancy into a supplier relationship, and buying an AI partner in the same transaction.
What TCS actually gets
MHP is headquartered in Ludwigsburg, near Stuttgart, and employs more than 4,500 people worldwide. It has spent over 30 years doing strategy and IT transformation work, mostly for automotive and manufacturing clients. That is a specific kind of domain knowledge, and it sits inside the German automotive belt rather than in an offshore delivery centre.
MHP keeps its name and corporate identity, and will run as an independent consultancy inside TCS.
Why Porsche is selling
Porsche framed the sale as another milestone in its Sportwagenschmiede 35 strategy, which is about concentrating on the core car business. Chief Executive Michael Leiters described the MHP transfer as a step in focusing resolutely on that core.
Read together with the partnership, the logic is straightforward enough: Porsche wants the consulting capability available to it without carrying the consultancy on its own books. MHP stays an important partner in Porsche's digitalisation work, particularly the AI projects.
The pattern worth noticing
European manufacturers spent years building captive digital units. Some of those units are now large enough to be worth selling, and Indian services firms are the buyers with both the appetite and the delivery scale. What makes this one different from a plain carve-out is that the AI partnership was negotiated as part of the same deal rather than left to a later procurement cycle.
For enterprise leaders watching similar decisions, that structure is the thing to study — not the price, which nobody disclosed anyway.
