Sebi's Next Fraud-Fighting Tool Is a WhatsApp Chatbot
Sebi's 2026-27 agenda includes an AI-enabled multilingual WhatsApp campaign to promote safe investing and flag fraud, alongside a broader AI/ML technology roadmap for market infrastructure.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) plans an AI-enabled multilingual campaign on WhatsApp and other digital platforms to spread verified information on safe investing practices, help identify fraudulent schemes, and support investor grievance redressal — according to its annual report.
It's part of Sebi's agenda for 2026-27, which centres on ease of doing business, market deepening, investor empowerment and digital transformation. Also planned: a revamped Sebi Investor website with a better interface and search, simplified nomination norms for demat accounts and mutual fund folios, and a proposed "Sebi Setu" portal giving intermediaries unified access to regulatory information, registration and application tracking.
Other items on the list: a common advertisement code, uniform penalty structures for investment advisers and research analysts, standardised procedures for transmitting securities, and a streamlined single-window mechanism for intermediaries registered across multiple market infrastructure institutions (MIIs).
Separately, a working group will take a broader view of emerging technology adoption across MIIs — AI/ML, distributed ledger technology, cloud computing, SupTech, RegTech, tokenisation, and quantum-safe systems — and prepare five- and ten-year technology roadmaps.
