OpenAI Quietly Acquired Presentation Startup NextSlide

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup that used AI to turn prompts, notes, and documents into editable presentations, and quietly folded its team into ChatGPT months after the deal reportedly closed.

NextSlide's pitch was straightforward: instead of building a slide deck from scratch, feed the tool a prompt, a set of notes, or existing research, and get back a polished, editable presentation. Founder Ahmed Beshry described the mission as making visual communication more accessible, framing the tool as a way to help people "create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work."

Financial terms of the acquisition weren't disclosed. It's not Beshry's first exit — he previously co-founded Caper AI, the smart-cart startup Instacart bought for $350 million in 2021.

The move fits a pattern in OpenAI's product strategy: rather than building every adjacent feature from scratch, it's been willing to acquire small, focused teams that have already solved a specific workflow problem well, then fold that capability directly into ChatGPT. Presentation generation slots naturally alongside document and spreadsheet work as one more "life admin" task ChatGPT is positioning itself to absorb.
